Predominant Use Studies

Seven - Utility Management Consultants, LLC will perform a predominant use study in the following states: CO, FL , IN, IA, MI, MN, NY, PA, TN, TX, UT, VT, VG, WY.

The price for your study will be determined by the complexity of the job and the number of meters.

A "Predominant Use Study" also known as an "Engineering Study" or a "Utility Study" is a report that analyzes the kilowatt hour consumption of each electric meter and/or the cubic foot consumption of each natural gas meter. The study must analyze the electricity and natural gas of every piece of equipment at the location and must include the following:

• A list of every piece of equipment from the coffee maker to air compressors, separated into processing or non-processing categories as established by the State Comptrollers office.
• The location of every piece of equipment.
• Processing and non-processing function for equipment that has dual usage.
• The cubic foot consumption of voltage, amperage or horsepower etc. for each piece of equipment.
• The hours of operation for each individual piece of equipment.
• The actual "on" hours for equipment running on a cycle.
• Square footage for each area.

The intent of a Predominant Use Study is to prove the exemptible use of electricity and/or natural gas in order to acquire state sales tax exemption status. Therefore, depending on your state's legislature, you may be required to have the study certified by a registered engineer or a graduate of an engineering college.

Seven - Utility Management Consultants, LLC will perform a balanced utility study in order to show the state the exact amount of exemptible use. The study will be certified by a registered engineer or other qualified individuals as dictated by your state's legislature. We will take care of this certification for you.
